VISITING GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Job Summary

The Department of Physics seeks to fill a visiting graduate student research assistant position in Astrophysics during Summer 2023. The successful candidate is expected to participate in research on investigations of applications of deep learning and related algorithms to detect cosmic voids in large galaxy spectroscopic surveys. The successful candidate is expected to work under the supervision of faculty researchers at Drexel engaged in this project.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and test code using deep learning and related algorithms for cosmic void finding.
  • Construct samples for analysis from cosmological simulations.
  • Construct samples for analysis from galaxy spectroscopic surveys.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Masters degree in Physics or Equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of Physics PhD study

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or research experience in extragalactic astronomy and cosmology
  • Expertise in programming including Python, GPU applications, GitHub
