Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

The department of Electrical Engineering (ISY) is central to the engineering education at the Institute of Technology, one of four faculties at Linköping University, and this regards both basic and applied knowledge. The research is based on industrial needs, and ranges from basic research to direct application in collaboration projects.

We are looking for a PhD student in Computer Vision.

Your work assignments
The research will be focused on robot vision for action perception. Specifically we will look at using action and motion parameters as guiding signals for learning, to allow learning to take place on the robot platform, using direct recordings of images and sensory data when these are distorted by the task at hand. The project will make use of current understanding of the dorsal stream function in human vision. The research is funded by the Swedish research council (VR), and the results will be presented in scientific articles and at conferences such as IJRR, TPAMI, ICRA and CVPR.

As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

Your workplace
The Division for Computer Vision (CVL) at the Department of Electrical Engineering (ISY) is a vibrant research environment with five faculty members, five researchers, ten PhD students, and several affiliated researchers. CVL conducts research and education in machine learning for computer vision at the undergraduate, advanced, and PhD levels. The division has been identified as outstanding Swedish research environment within AI in Vinnova’s latest report. For further details, see

Your qualifications
You have a degree at advanced level in computer science and engineering, or applied physics and electrical engineering, with at least 240 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 are cycle 2, with specialisation in computer vision or equivalent. Alternatively you have acquired essentially the corresponding knowledge in some other way.

The applicant should have good mathematical maturity and be experienced in programming. We also look for ability to work independently and to formulate and address tehnical and scientific questions. You communication skills in English should be excellent, both orally and in writing.

Terms of employment
When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at Doctoral studies at Linköping University

The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan.
