Data Scientist II, Product Analytics

The Performance Insights and Measurement Strategy team leads product performance related strategic analytics and customer experience advanced insight, ensuring that top level understanding of performance and the resulting decisions are being made are off the back of sound data and analytics principles. This results in simplification, efficiency improvement, consistency and clear accountability on product performance measurement.

As a data scientist II in the team, you will work closely with the embedded product analytics teams and the customer advocacy team in leading our efforts to get advanced insights on customer experience and our core metrics. Examples include working on anomaly detection, creating methods to identify the key drivers of negative customer sentiment and understanding the link between our key metrics and gross profit.

What you'll do

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Identifying opportunities to leverage advanced analytics methods to develop a deeper understanding of performance such as through forecasting and anomaly detection
  • Understanding the interaction of key metrics and their relationship with strategic and performance goals
  • Supporting product and analytics teams identify the most suitable key metrics for them to track and helping to enable them to do this
  • Exploratory analysis to identify friction across the customer journey, and quantify the business impact of this
  • Collaborating across the Centre of Excellence team to define how we embed new metrics into our experimentation culture
  • Defining a strategy for anomaly detection alongside the data visualisation and engineering teams
  • Working with the wider product analytics team at Expedia Group to share sophisticated analytics techniques

Who You Are

General Skills:

  • 2+ years’ analytics experience in a business context to drive insights
  • Passionate for logical problem solving and intellectual challenges
  • Curious by nature with an enthusiasm for making an impact
  • Able to work across team and communicate the results of sophisticated analyses in a clear and effective manner company-wide
  • Background in a quantitative field such as mathematics, physics, engineering, operations research, data science or similar, and a scientific approach to problem-solving (i.e. ability to ask the right questions and craft appropriate analyses to answer them)
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable with ambiguity. A sharp focus on results and strong attention to detail

Technical Skills

  • Expert with large data sets and proficient in SQL
  • Understanding of statistics and hypothesis testing (ex. Confidence Interval, Regressions, Time Series, Clustering, Factor Analysis)
  • Experience with R or python
  • A/B testing design and analysis a bonus
  • Experience with web analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics a plus
