Vacasa's machine learning and data science research is broad. We train dozens of models, from dynamic daily pricing for tens of thousands of vacation homes, to probability models that are used throughout the company. What We’re Looking For

As a Data Science Manager, you will shape the future of predictive modeling at Vacasa. You will inspire, lead, and grow a team of world-class data scientists to execute and capitalize on multi-million dollar business opportunities. Your team will use large, complex datasets to train machine learning models to solve business problems.

As player-coach, you will mentor and lead your team by example. You will demonstrate measurable improvements to our models through novel feature engineering approaches. You will set the research agenda for your team and break down tasks. You will determine when models are ready for production and recommend model retraining schedules. You will collaborate on a cross-functional engineering team. You will regularly interact with internal stakeholders including Product and Analytics. Your team has full executive support to scale the business using the latest techniques in data science and machine learning.

You won’t simply present data, but tell data-driven stories. You will convince and influence leaders using data-driven insights and recommendations. You will build credibility through structure and clarity, and be a trusted strategic partner.

Vacasa’s machine learning and data science research is broad. We train dozens of models, from dynamic daily pricing for all units, to probability models that are used throughout the company. There’s potential to explore and implement recommender systems, NLP techniques, and neural networks. Vacasa has hundreds of millions of records for model training. What You'll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of results-oriented data scientists
  • Set clear, measurable goals for your team
  • Drive research initiatives to inform, influence, and support product strategy
  • Conduct planning and brainstorming sessions with your team
  • Stay up-to-date on trends in the field
  • Drive best practices through experimentation, tool selection, testing, tracking, and documentation
  • Become a domain expert in the vacation rental industry by discovering insights in our data that will lead to more effective dynamic pricing, probability models, occupancy forecasting, and other statistical approaches
  • Build a strong culture in which everyone can be successful and valued
  • Other duties, as assigned

Skills You'll Need

  • 10+ years of experience in a software or data-related field
  • Graduate degree preferred, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience in dealing with large, semi-structured, raw data
  • Experience running a research team with minimum guidance
  • Python, pandas, numpy, pytorch, scikit-learn, SQL, Apache Spark, or equivalent
  • Deep knowledge of machine learning algorithms, including supervised, unsupervised, neural network, regression, and tree-based approaches
  • Familiarity with AWS tools such as SageMaker, EMR, Lambda, and Fargate a plus
  • Familiarity with Docker or other container systems is a plus
  • Dynamic pricing experience is preferred

Working conditions

This is work from home position with location prefrence of Boise, ID.

You’ll be working in your home office setting. We hold virtual training sessions and weekly team meeting. Occasional offsite team meetings in your region or our HQ locations. Requires frequent, repetitive use of a computer, phone, and office equipment. Requires patient, professional communication with prospective clients, and the ability to build confidence with prospects. Ability to work from home and resides in one of the followings states: AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, MT, NC, NH, NM, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, or WY

Compensation

  • $190000 - $210000 / salary
