Job Description

About the role:

At Takeda, we are committed to lifelong learning.

To that end, Takeda's summer internship program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience to start your career or further develop in your expertise.

The summer internship program is a full-time commitment of 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Our internship program also provides you the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.

Project Outline:

Note that this intern will be in the shinrAI Center but focused on Communications

The mission of the Data Sciences Institute is to get medicines to patients faster through innovation and efficiencies driven by data and analytics. Within DSI, the ShinrAI Center for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning group is part of DSI with the mission to harness the insights of artificial intelligence and machine learning to speed the development of new medicines. Within ShinrAI, we are aiming to create a data-driven culture within R&D as well as create a community of data hunters and data enthusiasts. We want employees to get excited about data and digital and the insights that can be made from the data available.

The intern will be focused on supporting communications and management of shinrAI events and programming including but not limited to speaker series, symposiums, educational events and/or  hackathons

AI/ML Education Programming Support and Communications:

  • Support Education lead with raising awareness of educational curricula/resources and/or raising awareness of educational events related to AI/ML
  • Create and launch communication campaigns for various educational events including but not limiting to writing articles, making flyers, and posting communication materials on various internal sites
  • Employee Testimonials: support creation of employee testimonials for the Center
  • Maintain educational resources employee groups and provide regular updates to employees regarding education update
  • Provide bi-weekly metrics on educational resources available
  • Create Impact reports on bi-weekly basis for education to update shinrAI team and help shape future educational strategy

AI/ML Hackathon and Contest Support:

  • Support planning for a hackathon with Takeda employees that aims to train employees on various AI/ML platforms as well as get employees excited about AI/ML
  • Create a plan for future hackathons/contests focused on AI/ML Learning for Takeda employees

Additional Activities:

  • Support shinrAI events and programming as needed
  • Become an expert on shinrAI resources, guidelines and case studies to share in various meetings
  • Support the creation and communication of Takeda R&D use cases to support education on data/digital:
  • These use cases will allow Takeda employees to learn how to navigate the R&D Data Hub and find datasets that are relevant to their work and/or projects
  • These use cases will also help employees learn how to use programming languages and platforms
  • Participate in shinrAI speaker series, symposiums and meetings as needed

Requirements / Qualifications:

As stated above, Takeda is committed to lifelong learning opportunities. To that end, our internship program is open to currently enrolled students seeking early experiences and non-traditional candidates interested in making a career change and gaining new experience.

The requirements for these two groups of candidates are specified below:

Candidates currently enrolled at an accredited university:

  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship (i.e., Takeda will not sponsor interns)
  • Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week), within core business hours (8 AM-5 PM), for a minimum of 12 weeks during the summer months
  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
  • Undergraduate, Graduate, PhD, MD student with at least one year of university studies before internship.
  • Preferred candidate has a life sciences, data sciencs and/or communications degree with some graphic design experience if possible.
  • Return to university for at least one semester post-internship
  • Takeda does not provide student housing or housing stipends

Non-traditional candidates not currently enrolled at university:

  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship (i.e., Takeda will not sponsor interns)
  • Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week), within core business hours (8 AM-5 PM), for a minimum of 12 weeks during the summer months
  • Must provide a cover letter explaining why you are seeking this internship, relevant experience that makes you a good candidate, and what you hope to achieve through the experience
    • Strong preference for non-traditional candidates with some experience relevant to the desired intern role
